Welcome to Mangoville

Welcome to Mangoville

A funny magazine to make your day not so serious. Eating a mango is recommended

– Unfunny President of Mangoville

First things first. Some people (even those who know me well), ask me why the domain name of this website is not gender neutral. Like – ‘mangopeople.world’. The inspiration behind the name was RK Laxman’s common man. Common translated to Hindi / Urdu is ‘aam’, which also means ‘Mango’. I have to admit that I realised the gender neutrality bit after I had purchased the domain name. Being totally broke and running thin on patience, I decided to keep the name.

Mango is my favourite fruit and there couldn’t have been a better time to start this magazine than summer, which for me is synonymous with mangoes. During the season I attempt to eat all the available varieties.

What / Where is Mangoville?

Mangoville is a fictional land that is growing in size geographically and in terms of population with every new reader and contributor. Its capital is Baiganpally, named after the commonly available Banganapalle mango. Baiganpally, like this magazine is not about extraordinary mangoes like Alphonso or Langda or Kesar, but more approachable. I will keep adding new places and characters to Mangoville. True to its name, it is run by common people. But even the simplest forms of administration need a chief. Hence I have appointed myself the President of the Banana Republic of Mangoville. Now you might ask me why is this a banana republic. The thing is that I have no experience of being President, so it might end up looking like one. Which is fine, because banana is also a common man’s fruit.
