The disappearance of Baby Malini (Final Chapter)

Click to read Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4

Anna, KGF Chapter 2 is out. I was dying to watch it but not getting time because of Snoopy Susie who has dragged me into this kidnapping case. As if that was not enough, we now have to visit the castle of Count Darkula to retrieve her from some dark basement. This Darkula does not look like a trustworthy person to me. He wears a cape but does not seem to have superpowers. It is for show only. Maybe he is trying to fool us. His castle is a long drive away from Totapuri. Since Susie and I were hungry, we decided to have dinner at a place called The Last Supper. Darkula suggested that we should eat heartily since he does not know when we might get our next meal. I don’t know why he said that. The owner of the place looked as sinister as Darkula and I am sure he is hand in glove with him.

Disappearance of Baby Malini
What waits for us at Castle Darkula?

Stupid Murugan. I really do not know when he will get his next meal. Do you know when Murugan will get his next meal? Nothing strange about it, is it?

– Count Darkula
Disappearance of Baby Malini
A shadowy figure guards the entrance to the castle

When we reached the castle, we found skulls and bones scattered all over. An eerie, shadowy presence was standing at the door, holding what looked like a pickaxe. Now I was certain that Darkula planned to kill us and scatter our bones. I no longer even believed that Baby Malini was inside the castle. He had simply lured us here. Two victims for the effort of one. I would like to tell all my admirers from Mangoville that I may not have become a big film star cop like Iftekhar gaaru and Jagadish anna, or a real police commissioner, but I have always served the people of Mangoville, without taking bribes. Now if Malini is inside, I will try to rescue her until this Darkula has sucked the last drop of my blood. To die in the line of duty like Amitabh Bachchan Sir in Sholay is the ultimate honour.

Darkula’s wife approached us, without revealing her face. Indeed, it appeared that there was no face, or even a body inside that cloak. Just the emptiness of death, which I was going to embrace myself shortly. Meanwhile Susie had chewed away all her nails in fear, proving that intelligence does not equal courage. Murugan may not be very smart or educated, but he is macho and brave.

Darkula did not seemed fazed by the fact that they did not have any money left. But why do vampires need money? His castle does not look like it undergoes any maintenance ever, his wife does not look like a real person, and I am sure his entire diet is made up of blood of his victims.

Disappearance of Baby Malini

I had now begun to suspect that Darkula was no vampire but a madman and a loser. But Malini was still inside that castle and Darkula seemed more intent on feeding and keeping her than releasing her. His wife was a possible ally, so I made an appeal to her.

We finally entered the eerie looking castle, Ms. Darkula leading the way with a torch. The place had no electricity and after walking for about 5 minutes we reached what looked like a bedroom. Indeed, there was Malini, blissfully unaware of the happenings around her. We wasted no time and tossed her into a sack before she could realise what hit her. Susie cut open some holes in the sack for ventilation while I tied a knot that I had learnt in police cadet school. Malini shouted that she didn’t want to go back home and was becoming a real nuisance, so I told her that we are not rescuing her but transferring her to the castle of a real vampire as Count Darkula was a fake.

I promised to pay them Rs 30,000 once we reached an ATM in Totapuri. I could only hope that the miserly Mishra ji would reimburse me for all the expenses so far. We bid adieu to Ms. Darkula for taking care of Malini and tolerating her tantrums.
